Brunch Cocktails We Love
Weekends are made for brunching or so we like to think! At the Portola Hotel, The Club Room serves bottomless mimosas, and Jacks Monterey offers a variety of brunch cocktails, including a Tequila Sunrise, Bloody Mary’s and Mimosas. We picked two simple recipes for you to make at home – until we meet again, that is!
Mimosas have long been a brunch favorite, and it is easy to see why they are easy to make and a refreshing pairing with scrambled eggs, French toast, or on their own. To create the perfect Mimosa, we recommend:
- ½ champagne flute of fresh squeezed orange juice to ½ a flute of Moet Champagne
- Garnish with an orange wheel (optional)
For an at home version of bottomless mimosas, set a fancy ice bucket at your table to hold a bottle of champagne and a carafe of orange juice!
Bloody Mary’s are not for everyone (could it be the tomato juice?), but we love them! Make it anyway you like it – mild or spicy, with a few garnishes or enough to make a meal. A Bloody Mary is easy to make from scratch by combining the following ingredients in a shaker with ice:
- 5 ounces Ketel One vodka
- 3/4 cup vegetable juice
- 1-2 dashes Worcestershire sauce
- 1-2 dashes hot sauce of your choice
- Salt & pepper

Shake, shake, shake, and pour into a glass full of ice. The most important step in creating the perfect Bloody Mary might be the garnish, which can include any or all of the following:
- Pepperoncini peppers
- Limes or Lemons
- Pickle spears
- Green olives
- Pickled asparagus, green beans, jalapeños, beets, cauliflower or carrots
- Marinated pearl onions
- Cheese cube
Mix it up and substitute Gin or Tequila for Vodka!
