Five Must See & Do Spring Activities

Five Must See & Do Spring Activities

Spring is almost upon us and that means now is the perfect time to begin planning for some fun activities to partake in during your next visit to the Monterey Peninsula. Though, there are endless activities and adventures available throughout the Monterey Bay Area and beyond, we narrowed it down to our Top Five Favorites!

1. Sea Kayaking – there really is no better way to explore the Monterey Bay than by sea kayak. With rentals available at Adventures by the Sea and Monterey Bay Kayaks, choose the option of taking a guided tour, or heading out on your own. See sea otters, seals, sea lions and more as you cruise along the calm waters of the Monterey Bay Marine Sanctuary. Discover quiet coves and breathtaking views everywhere you turn!

2. Take It All In (while enjoying a great cup of coffee) – with our new Peet’s Coffee now open right here at the Portola Hotel & Spa off the lower lobby, you can sit inside the cool, modern interior of the coffee bar, or take in the sights outside on Alvarado Mall. Indulge in homemade baked goods, grab and go wraps, salads, and more!

3. Don’t Miss Sunset – with ocean views practically everywhere you explore on the Monterey Peninsula, make sure to make time to catch the sunset. Whether taking it in from the white sand beaches in Carmel by the Sea or Asilomar Beach in Pacific Grove, or during an evening stroll to Monterey State Beach, you want to make sure to make this a part of your Monterey Bay Bucket List.

4. Stop & Smell the Flowers (the wildflowers that is!) – with all the winter rains, this Spring season is sure to be blooming with wildflowers. Ask our concierge for directions and guides to some of the Peninsula’s best hiking spots including Garland Ranch in Carmel Valley, Palo Corona Ranch or Point Lobos – just to name a few!

5. Make Some Time for Wine – book a tour on the Wine Trolley or let our Concierge help in setting up a private car and spend the day touring the boutique wineries of Carmel Valley. If you’re looking for a walking tour, reserve a spot with the Carmel Wine Walk and stroll through the quaint coastal village of Carmel by the Sea and taste some of the finest wines in Monterey County. If you’re seeking something a bit closer to the Portola, start at SoVino Wine Bar right out on the Alvarado Mall then walk down to Taste of Monterey on Cannery Row, where you will also find a nice variety of tasting rooms along the way .
