Monterey Old Fisherman’s Wharf
Old Fisherman’s Wharf is one of Monterey’s most memorable landmarks, located steps away from Portola Hotel & Spa. The wharf was featured in the HBO series, Big Little Lies, and is notoriously known for locally made clam chowder in bread bowls and salt-water taffy. Monterey is also known as the “Whale Watching Capital of the World” and is a top destination for tourists. At the wharf, there’s an immense amount of fun and adventurous ocean activities such as deep sea fishing trips and whale watching excursions that are open year-round. When you are on Fisherman’s Wharf, you may spot harbor seals, sea lions, sea otters, seagulls, and even whales in the bay.
On the way to Fisherman’s Wharf, you will find the “Monterey Walking Path of History” at Monterey State Historic Park. As California’s first state capitol, visitors will have an opportunity to explore the rich history of the area. Directly adjacent to Old Fisherman’s Wharf is the Custom House, the first government building in Monterey.
