Being on the road for work can be exciting and often fun, but with travel, comes a bit of stress. By reducing stress before, during and after your meeting/event, you and your guests will experience an increased value and create a lasting impression.

Here at the Portola Hotel & Spa in beautiful Monterey; gorgeous views, outdoor recreational activities and culture galore surrounds our property, in turn creating an environment that exudes a sense of calm.

Inspired by our property and the local region, I am excited to share some tips and ideas to help reduce the stress factor during your next event.

  • Take a moment to meditate, breath and be present in the moment – prior to your event, research on site and nearby yoga studios, spas, barre classes and fitness centers to ensure you have time to refocus and find a balance
  • Stay hydrated – travel with your reusable hydro flask or water bottle (make sure your guests stay hydrated too, by providing logoed, stainless steel water bottles for your guests/attendees)
  • Create a document with commonly asked questions centered around you and your guest’s needs, ensuring everyone is prepared for “showtime”
  • Don’t wait until the last minute – plan ahead, make that list and check it twice
  • Take advantage of hotel amenities for R&R including pool time, on site fitness centers, nearby recreational walking/running trails or spa treatments

  • Divide and concur – delegation is key, as is utilizing your venue’s on-site catering and meetings professionals
  • Plan to arrive a day early or stay a day after your event to take in the local sites and decompress before a busy week of meetings or heading back into the office

Try one or try them all – but most importantly – take a moment to enjoy the view, appreciate the opportunity and make the most out of every new experience. We hope to see you soon in Monterey!
