Portola Hotel & Spa Awarded the 2016 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award
Monterey, CA – March 7, 2017 – After being named an official finalist by California State Chair, James P. Bombs, Portola Hotel & Spa of Monterey, CA has been awarded the 2016 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award for its high level of support shown for their Guard and Reserve employees. The award is presented annually to only 15 employer finalists by the Secretary of Defense.
The Department of Defense recognizes the contribution of the civilian employers, many of whom provide significant support to their employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve. The Freedom Award is the highest recognition given by the U.S. government to employers for their support of their employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve.

Along with the award, Portola Hotel & Spa has been listed as a patriotic supporter of its employee and received a Statement of Support (SoS) that indicates awareness of the Federal Law USERRA.

ABOUT THE FREEDOM AWARD
The Freedom Award was instituted in 1996 by the Secretary of Defense to recognize the many exemplary ways employers support their National Guard and Reserve employees. The Freedom Award is the highest recognition given by the U.S. Government to employers for their support of their employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve. Nominations must come from Guard or Reserve members who are employed by the organization they are nominating, or from a family member of a Guard or Reserve military service member.
