PORTOLA HOTEL & SPA WELCOMES CODY LEANO AS HEAD BREWER AT PETER B'S

Monterey, Calif. (March 23, 2026) – Portola Hotel & Spa is pleased to announce the appointment of Cody Leano as Head Brewer at Peter B’s. The appointment marks a milestone moment for Peter B's, which is approaching 30 years as Monterey's original craft brewery. Leano brings eight years of hands-on brewing experience, a passion for innovation, and a deep commitment to quality that will further elevate Peter B’s beloved lineup of craft beers.

Leano’s journey in the craft beer industry began in 2016 at Alvarado Street Brewery, where he started on the floor as a busser before transitioning through the beer garden and serving team, ultimately finding his calling behind the brew kettle. His dedication earned him a promotion to Assistant Brewer, and by 2020, he had risen to Head Brewer at Alvarado Street Brewery and Bistro, where he independently managed the full brewing operation. His excellence was recognized on a national stage when he earned a silver medal at the Great American Beer Festival, one of the most prestigious honors in the American craft brewing industry.

In 2024, Leano helped open Hops and Fog Brewery in Pacific Grove, serving as the head and sole brewer and playing an integral role in establishing the brewery from the ground up. His experience building a brewing program from scratch, combined with a creative approach to recipe development, makes him exceptionally well-suited to lead and grow the brewing program at Peter B’s. As Head Brewer, his immediate priorities include continuing to produce a diverse and high-quality lineup of beers at Peter B’s while expanding distribution across the Monterey Peninsula so that more locals and visitors can enjoy what’s on tap.
