Get Your 10,000 Steps Monterey Bay Style
We all know that pedometers, Fitbit and other step tracking devices are all the rage – and we also know that while on vacation it’s easy to forget about fitness. So…we thought it might be fun to map out a walking plan in and around Monterey, so you can earn those steps, all while taking in the sights around the Monterey Bay!
We have mapped that around 4 ½ to 5 miles for most, hits the 10,000 step mark, more or less. So lace up your sneakers, and let’s hit the trail!
Starting Point:
As you walk through the lobby at the Portola Hotel & Spa, head towards Fisherman’s Wharf and hop onto the Coastal Recreation Trail, towards Cannery Row. Depending on the time of day, make sure to dress in layers as the mornings tend to be a bit cooler than the middle of the day.
This Coastal Recreation Walking & Biking Path is a true gem here in Monterey. You can literally walk to some of the most eye catching and interesting landmarks on the Monterey Peninsula and beyond. On this journey, simply follow the path – landmarks that are worth stopping for photo opps include:
Colorful buildings along the back of Fisherman’s Wharf
San Carlos Beach near the Coast Guard Pier
Historic Cannery Row & McAbee Beach
The Monterey Bay Aquarium
Hopkins Marine Station & adjacent beach, great place to view Sea Lions
Coastal Pacific Grove Views
End Point:
Lovers Point Beach, Pacific Grove (turn around, it’s time to head back, or continue on for more steps and more views)!
This walk totals (give or take) 4.84 miles at a walking pace round trip. We would love to learn about your favorite Monterey Bay route for getting in those steps. Share your #portolamontereyroute with us via the Portola Hotel & Spa Facebook page!
Happy Stepping!
