Portola’s Eco-Friendly Travel Tips

Portola’s Eco-Friendly Travel Tips

As one of Central California’s first green hotels, here at the Portola Hotel & Spa we strive to be as eco-conscious and eco-friendly as possible –here on property, as well as in our day to day lives. We recently asked some of our amazing team members to share their tips and ideas on how to incorporate green living into travelling, for both business and pleasure.

Question: What’s your favorite way to travel “green”?

“Eat local! Enjoy, locally sourced and sustainable options.” – Portola Hotel & Spa, Executive Chef Danny Abbruzzese

“Take showers rather than baths; even consider using a refillable water container and minimize your use of personal care products in non-recyclable or compostable containers. Also, leave your car parked and utilize trails and public footpaths; do not remove plants or feed animals, and never litter.” – Franco Vasquez, Banquet Manager

“When attending conferences, request options for food composting after banquet functions. Green meetings are actually easy to achieve – plan ahead and ask for recycling receptacles in meeting spaces, and instead of using paper products, plan for using glasses for water stations and other beverage areas.” – Eddie Guice, Catering & Convention Services Manager

“When staying in hotels, please take advantage of reusing your towels and bed linens, especially, if staying for just one or two days.” – Troy Reil, Director of Rooms

“I always travel with a reusable water bottle and avoid purchasing single use plastic bottles!” – Jackie Olsen, Marketing Manager
