Fort Ord Dunes State Park includes 4 miles of trails overlooking the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary that provide some gorgeous ocean views. The area used to be a military training base, but is now a beautiful state park with rolling dunes offering breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean which is perfect for a coastal nature walk. While you stroll through the park, you'll see many animal species such as butterflies, sea lions, birds and many more.
Garland Regional Park
Garland Regional Park is a popular spot for leisurely hiking as there are breathtaking views at almost every corner of the park. Nestled in Carmel Valley, Garland will take you alongside Garzas Creek, the Carmel River, or up into the Santa Lucia Mountains, allowing you to walk through different visitas. This nature walk has a unique twist as it gives you the opportunity to learn about the past of this area, through taking you through historical areas such as Rumsen Indian habitation sites. The park is open from dawn to dusk daily, allowing you plenty of time to explore.
Point Lobos State Natural Reserve
Point Lobos State Natural Reserve is famous for its stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and has great trails for a relaxing stroll to take in the sights. Choose an easy trail for a slow nature walk of ocean views, thick cypress groves, or tide pools. Make sure to keep your eyes peeled for sea lions, sea birds, sea otters and more while you walk! The Reserve is open 8am to 7pm daily, and has a vehicle entrance fee of $10 per car.
Garrapata State Park
Garrapata State Park has incredible trails with two miles of beach front paths that lookout into views of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. This trail is especially popular for its Calla Lily flowers that bloom in the winter and spring months, but it's truly beautiful year-round and will provide the perfect place for a calming walk as you take in the ocean views. This state park is also a good place to spot wildlife with sea lions, harbor seals, sea otters and California gray whales being spotted here.

Monterey Bay Coastal Rec Trail
The Monterey Rec trail spans from Pacific Grove all the way to Castroville, and has idyllic views of the harbor and Monterey Bay. This paved trail leads you to some of Monterey's most popular attractions like Cannery Row, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and Old Fisherman's Wharf, but also leads to tall eucalyptus trees and rolling sand dunes as you head north. There's an entrance to the trail just a short walk away from the Portola Hotel & Spa, making it a great option for those looking to explore on foot!
