Point Sur Lighthouse Halloween Tours
October 24 & 31 | 5:15 p.m.
Looking for one of the more unique things to do in Monterey during the fall? Take a drive down the scenic Highway 1 to Point Sur Lighthouse, where coastal beauty, history, and paranormal activity come together.
The Point Sur Lighthouse was built in 1889 and has a long history of shipwrecks and isolated lighthouse keepers. During the Halloween season, guests have the special opportunity to explore the lighthouse after dark, while learning about paranormal stories and recordings and gaining access to areas not typically shown on tours. Be sure to visit the tour website to purchase tickets and confirm the schedule.
California Seaweed Festival
October 24 | 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Another way to dive into the coastal fall festivities is to attend the 7th annual California Seaweed Festival. Taking place just outside the Portola Hotel & Spa on Old Custom House Plaza, the festival celebrates a day of science, art, food, culture, and seaweed, of course.
This is a free festival that brings together researchers, chefs, artists, and visitors from all different backgrounds for talks, demonstrations, tastings, and other hands-on activities, making this one of the best family activities in Monterey during the fall. With Monterey’s incredible marine ecosystem and the important role it plays in the region, it’s a great opportunity to learn more about kelp forests and seaweed and their impact on the coast.
