Portola Hotel & Spa’s Peter B’s Brewpub Wins Silver Medals at World Beer Championships for Alvarado Street Raspberry Wheat and Legend of Laguna IPA

Monterey, CA – November 1, 2012 – Peter B's Brewpub, located behind Portola Hotel & Spa, Monterey's first and only Silver LEED®-EB certified hotel, has won silver medals for their Alvarado Street Raspberry Wheat beer and Legend of Laguna IPA at the World Beer Championships. These silver medals brings Peter B's Brewpub to six prestigious medals from the World Beer Championships.

Tastings.com, Beverage Tasting Institute's (BTI) website, describes the brewery's Alvarado Street Raspberry Wheat brew as tasty and well balanced. It is a cloudy amber orange color with bright floral raspberry sorbet and scone aromas. Flavors include a supple, dry-yet-fruity medium body and a tangy, wafer and white nut finish.

Their Legend of Laguna IPA is described as crisp and round with a dry-yet-fruity medium-to-full body. It has aromas of grapefruit and mango creme brulees with a layer of leafy mustard greens and resinous hops. Flavors are of fruity Brach's caramel, dried tropical citrus, mint, cocoa, and peppercorn layered finish.

Peter B's Brewpub was the Bronze medal recipient of the 2012 Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute's World Beer Championships for their Fort Ord Wheat Ale, and the Silver medal recipient of the 2011 Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute's World Beer Championships for their Inclusion Amber Ale and their Winter Brau Ale.

Early this fall, Peter B's Brewpub harvested their first hops from the Salinas Valley introducing Otto Pale Ale. Master Brewer, Kevin Clark handpicked the hops with the help of Rancho Cielo staff and immediately began to brew for an early fall release. Clark chose to brew with the fresh hops to capture the beautiful aromas and flavors rather than drying and pelletizing the hops. "Fresh hops are seasonal and really showcase the hop in season. Otto Ale is a very drinkable Pale Ale" says Clark.

The hops were grown at Rancho Cielo, a comprehensive learning and social services center for underserved youth in Monterey County. Otto Pale Ale is named after founder and former Superior Court Judge, John M. Phillips' dog Otto.

Peter B's Brewpub is Monterey's only craft brewery and a popular spot for locals and hotel guests alike. Peter B's Brewpub combines great pub food, handcrafted beer prepared by resident Brewmaster Kevin Clark, and a warm, friendly atmosphere for guests.
